The main purpose of picture framing glass is the protection of artwork from destructive factors, such as humidity, heat, pollution, etc.

The main types of picture framing glass are the clear of float glass and the anti-reflective or non-reflective glass (matte). Each of the above types has different appearance and may affect the subject in different ways. Both types can also have per case the ability of protection from UV radiation, thus protecting the artwork from sunlight. In this case, we talk about museum glass.

Moreover, in framing we also use acrylic glass or plexiglass, although it is not real glass and may sometimes negatively affect the subject. However, in certain cases it is more appropriate than glass, when for instance for safety reasons we want to avoid possible breakage.
